Why See My Chiro When the Pain Stop? 20/10/2011
Many People see pain as the main indicator of being healthy or unhealthy. The arrival of pain is associated with the perceived cause of it...'I was drying my hair' or 'I just picked up my kid' etc. Obviously these daily tasks are not dangerous and should not cause your back to injure or your neck to be stiff. In most cases your problem has not occurred overnight, there have been months and years of cumulative stress and trauma that have brought you to this state. Daily habits are mostly the root cause of all complaints we see in the practice. Sedentary work, sitting at a computer for 8 hours a day and a sedentary lifestyle, not partaking in exercise especially stretching exercise like Yoga and Pilates, has a massive effect on the body and the way it functions. Our bodies work best when they have movement, when we used to sow our food and catch our dinner we were far healthier, now many of us sit all day, get home have dinner and plonk in front of the TV. And it's fair enough, because we work hard and are pretty beat by the end of the day, but we also need to realise that when problems occur, this lifestyle has played a major part. Healing does take time, whether you are in pain or not, it has 3 stages, acute inflammation, repair and re-modelling. If our clients stop coming after the inflammation and pain is gone, but do not stick around for the repair and re-modelling, we will see them again with the same issues. To give up treatment when the pain goes is costly and time consuming for you, as we need to start right back at the beginning of treatment. To keep up maintenance when you are much better, and make a few changes to your lifestyle when you can, will result in a well adjusted body that lets you do all the things that you want to do and do them well! 1 Comment In Between The Lines 03/08/2011
Our Chiropractor Andrew and Naturopath Hayley are presenting seminars on Childhood Nutrition and specifically on the effects of sugar on Children's behaviour and development. We present to schools and clubs and to anyone who would like to know more about how todays processed diet is affecting our kids. When we present this seminar, teachers and parents alike are disgusted at the amount of hidden sugars that are present in the foods we give to children. Also when they see how much damage sugar can do to the developing brain, they quickly have a sort through their cupboards. One of the most valuable things a parent can do is to check the ingredients of any product they buy for their kids. There are a number of different names given for sugar, Barley malt, dextrose, fructose, cane sugar, corn syrup etc..For this reason it can be hard to know how much sugar a product contains. Take a common supposedly healthy cereal like Just Right from kelloggs, and it has 4 different types of sugar. It is marketed as the healthy option but laden with sugar, so when you think you are giving your child a great start to the day, you are actually giving them a sugar high and will probably crash just as they're getting to school. Once you get used to checking the ingredients and making sure the sugar content is low, it will become second nature and shopping will not take any longer than usual. Of course if you keep to mostly fresh foods, you needn't worry! | Sarah WalshHi there, I manage our clinic of Chiropractors, Podiatrist and Naturopath.
