Introducing Sydney Chiropractor Andrew Richards

I had never seen a chiropractor until my second year of a medical science degree, actually no-one in my family had. My father had ongoing back problems and had done the usual rounds of seeking medical care from doctors, to physiotherapists and specialists with no results. It was then that a friend of my mother's suggest he go and see her chiropractor and that is when things started to change. He came back with interesting stories about the adjustments he was having and how he hadn't felt this good in years. So that was it, I had to see for myself.

Introducing Sydney Chiropractor Andrew RichardsI left school knowing that I wanted to learn more about the human body, especially in relation to optimal health and performance. I also knew that dealing with drugs and surgery wasn't the place for me but still wasn't that sure about some of the options still available, so a started an undergraduate science degree at Sydney university. In second year I progressed into medical science which allowed me to focus on my particular subjects of interest which were anatomy, physiology and neurology. It was during this time I had my own personal experience with chiropractic.

At the time I was racing in triathlons and had began having problems with my right knee. During my first consultation I remember being most impressed with the fact that the whole body was assessed from head to toe, not just where the pain was. I liked that chiropractic had more to do with keeping your whole body functioning to it's fullest potential not just as a treatment for injury. Being an athlete this just made so much sense. Before I had left the office that day I knew that this was going to be the profession for me. Eigtheen years later and 12 years after being the founding member of the practice I am more inspired about delivering chiropractic care to the community than ever before.

The Inner West Spinal & Sports Injury Centre was conceived to meet the need for high quality, natural and scientific health care. Our intention is to make the latest in diagnosis, management, maintenance and prevention available to everyone. In conjunction with general practice in chiropractic, podiatry, naturopathy, acupuncture and massage we have continued to develop areas of specialty practice in chiropractic paediatrics, functional neurology and orthopaedics. We have integrated the latest in diagnostic equipment such as digital radiology, QEEG brain mapping, Computerised Balance and Postural assessments and Live Blood Cell analysis. Our practioners are engaged in further post-graduate education and research. We also hold teaching positions both privately and within the university systems.

While we thrive on the most challenging of cases such as spinal disc injury, childhood developmental delay, learning, balance and movement disorders our true passion lies in prevention. Our pledge is to offer an alternative model of care which is focused upon your health, NOT your sickness. We believe that things like regular chiropractic check-ups should be part of a healthy lifestyle and are best performed when you are feeling great so we can keep it that way. We want to see children get the most out of their growing years, adults reach their full potential and our seniors enjoy the rewards of the years of hard work.

Together as a team and with you as our client we expect that you will appreciate and understand your body in a whole new way. In our practice, whether you consult with one practioner or many you will always benefit from us all.

Being a chiropractor can be quite hard on the body so weekly check-ups and adjustments continue to be part of my lifestyle to this day.

Andrew Asks some important questions of interest to Sydney residents - Chiropractor Sydney Andrew Asks...

Will chiropractic adjustments make my spine too loose?
No. Only the spinal joints that are fixated and "locked up" receive attention. The occasional spinal joint that moves too much is passed over so weakened muscles and ligaments can strengthen and heal.
How could chiropractic help a stomach problem?
Chiropractic works by locating and reducing areas of the spine compromising nerve communications between your brain and your body. If nerves to or from your stomach are irritated, your stomach won't work right. Chiropractors find the source of the interference, reduce it and allow your body to work as designed.
