Introducing Sydney Chiropractor Havard Bergby
"Walking through the halls of my school in Year 8 I suddenly lost all sensation in my feet and fell to the ground. Not long after I got up and strolled to class. An hour later, when the bell rang I straightened up and felt the most excruciating pain I have ever felt in my back. Unable to move emergency personnel had to come and pick me up. Hours followed with testing at the hospital where no one was able to diagnose me and tell me what was wrong. Not even the Head Surgeon could tell me with certainty what was going on. Late that night I was sent home with a ‘cocktail’ of pain-killers and advise to stay in bed for the next week.
Two days later the restlessness got the better of me and I decided that bed rest was no longer an option. Being a very active kid I found that movement helped with the pain straight away. Within a couple of days I was pain free again. It was not until a few weeks later, when the chiropractor at my soccer club overheard my story that any real treatment took place. He advised me to come see him the next day, which I did. I was diagnosed with an L5 spondylolisthesis (a stress fracture of a vertebra in the lower back) which he explained was very common in young athletes like myself. I was adjusted, given exercises and advised on what to do to avoid any recurrences. Since then I have had regular chiropractic care, and subsequently haven’t had any back problems. It was this experience that triggered my interest for chiropractic. Not once to this day have I regretted choosing chiropractic as my path in life, and my patients continue to inspire me every single day. My girlfriend Rebecca is now in her 3rd year of chiropractic studies which makes for great dinner conversations."
Havard finished high school and served one year in the Norwegian Army before moving across the world to study chiropractic. Being born and raised in Norway, no chiropractic education was available yet. Having heard good reports about chiropractic studies at Macquarie University in Sydney he moved to Australia to begin his studies. Havard has special interests in the areas of biomechanics, neurology, pre and post-natal care. He is currently working through a masters degree in Chiropractic Paediatrics.
